    Psalm 2:12

Blessed are they that put their trust in him.

What an easy concept yet how hard a thing to do.

We have all seen the bumper sticker “Let go, Let God”.

Many have also heard the old story of the man who falls over a cliff and manages to grab hold of a small branch growing in the side of the cliff.  He prays “God help me”, he receives an answer to his prayer, “Let go”.  He looks down at the rocks below and prays again, “Is there anyone else up there”?

How often do we find ourselves “hanging on for dear life” unable to let go and trust God’s power to defeat the rocks below?

Martin Luther once wrote that the Christian should sin boldly, but believe even more boldly.  I don’t think he was saying we should think up even more creative ways to separate ourselves from God.  I think he was counseling against a life paralyzed by fear and dependence upon ones self.

Life is filled with dangerous places, tough spots, rocky ground.

With my family, my friends, my work can I really trust God to bring peace, harmony, love, joy and good will or do I think I can do it better?

Gracious God, help me to step aside and trust in your power to bring good into my life.  AMEN
